Understand Milia, the cause & how to treat it

What is Milia?

Milia are tiny, white bump-like cysts underneath the skin usually found around the eye, on the eyelids and on the cheeks. They can appear in adults as well as in babies.

What is the cause of Milia?

Milia are formed when skin flakes or keratin become trapped under the skin. Some people are prone to them and they pop up every now and again. If your family also suffer you’re probably genetically predisposed to them. If only one or two appear simply change up your skincare routine.

How to treat Milia

Most importantly Milia are not spots as such, they do not sit in your pores so it's impossible to squeeze them. Never try, it will only cause scarring. They are not infected and aren't caused by bacteria.

Cleanse your skin thoroughly making sure to remove all traces of makeup. It may mean you need to double cleanse or even triple cleanse. Just make sure your cotton pad is completely clean before you stop. You then need to add a good facial exfoliator to your routine, either in acid form or a gentle exfoliator. I have listed a few recommended products below. Use any one of these on a daily basis and you will see a huge improvement in the appearance of your skin and will help to remove your Milia.

If your Milia is stubborn the best and quickest way to remove them is to visit your nearest beauty salon where they will be safely removed with an electrolysis needle.
